Middle School Science Teacher 8:15-4:15

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. Valid Iowa Teaching Certificate
  2. BA required, MA preferred
  3. Teaching experience preferred; junior high/middle school focus
  4. Earth/Life/Physical Science background and/or experience
  5. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with colleagues and build positive relationships with students and families
  6. Commitment to ongoing professional development and growth
  7. Ability to use technology effectively to enhance teaching and learning
  8. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom and school community.
  9. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the District may find appropriate and acceptable.

JOB GOALS:  To motivate each student and facilitate the acquisition of knowledge, concepts and process in science in order to enhance student learning, promote the overall efficiency of the school system, and maximize the educational opportunities available to each child.  



PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Develop and implement engaging and challenging science lessons that align with state standards and the school's curriculum that are age appropriate for middle school students.
  2. Use a variety of teaching methods and resources to facilitate student learning and understanding of scientific concepts
  3. Create a positive and inclusive classroom environment that fosters student growth and development
  4. Evaluate student progress with a variety of assessment techniques and provide regular feedback to students and parents/guardians
  5. Collaborate with colleagues to develop and implement interdisciplinary projects and activities
  6. Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of student progress and attendance
  7. Use effective motivational techniques and behavior management strategies consistent with school procedures and routines.
  8. Teach for understanding.
  9. Plan effectively (short and long lesson design and planning)
  10. Set high expectations for your professional development and for student achievement.
  11. Work cooperatively with colleagues.
  12. Supervise students in out-of-classroom activities during the work day.
  13. Fulfill conditions of employment outlined in the negotiated agreement.
  14. Assume other duties and responsibilities assigned by the principal.
  15. Potentially work with a special education colleague to deliver instruction in a collaborative teaching manner.
  16. Other duties as assigned  



TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 184/186 Contract Days.   Salary and calendar year to be established by the Board of Education. 



EVALUATION: Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the District’s policy on Evaluation, State Statute, and any applicable Collective Bargaining Agreement.
